The Polar Bear has taken New York by storm. Making his debut in 2019, Alonso became the first Mets player to ever hit 50 home runs in a season. In his rookie season he set the Mets' single-season home run record and also set the major league record for most home runs by a rookie in a single season, breaking Aaron Judge's previous record of 52 home runs. The accolades Alonso achieved didn't stop there during his rookie season, Alonso appeared in his first career MLB All Star game, and he wowed the crowd in Cleveland winning the Home Run Derby by defeating Vlad Guerrero 23-22 in the final round becoming only the second rookie to win the Derby outright. Alonso capped off his dominating rookie campaing winning the NL Rookie of the Year, making the All-MLB First Team, and finishing the season as the league's leader in home runs.
